My Favorite Chocolate Cake

Would you like some Chocolate Cake? Yes, please!
Today's cake is a partial repeat. I thought I would try bringing my favorite cake and my favorite frosting together in a layer cake and see what magical things might appear. The cake is the Chocolate Sour Cream Cake that I baked as a 13x9 a few weeks ago. However, the frosting is oh so different. I really enjoyed the cake last time, but I thought that the icing was lacking. So, I pulled out my favorite frosting recipe and made this cake. The frosting is Cracker Barrel's Cocoa-Cola Cake Frosting. Yes, it is a little gooey, but very tasty. Oh my, words cannot describe how wonderful an experience it is when you take the first big bite of the perfect amount of cake verses frosting. Yum, Yum, Grandpa. Look at the frosting cascading over the side of the cake like a Willy Wonka Waterfall. Don't you want to jump in? The cake is more of a dark chocolate flavor, but is well balanced by the milk chocolaty smooth, creamy, frosting. See if my favorite chocolate cake is your favorite too.

My Favorite Chocolate Cake
Ingredients:
1-3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1-3/4 cups sugar
3/4 cup Hershey's Cocoa
1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 container (16 oz.) dairy sour cream
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
See Frosting below

Directions:
1. Heat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour 13x9x2-inch baking pan, or two 9 inch round pans for 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
2. Stir together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda and salt in large bowl. Add butter, sour cream, eggs and vanilla; beat on medium speed of mixer 3 minutes. Pour batter into prepared pan.
3. Bake 40 to 45 minutes (13x9x2 pan) or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan on wire rack. 12 to 15 servings.

Frosting
1 stick of butter
½ c cocoa
1 tsp vanilla
¼ c Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup
¼ c Coca Cola (plus 2-3 Tbsp if needed)
3 c powdered sugar

Cream butter, add cocoa, vanilla, syrup, and coke, beat until smooth. Add powdered sugar a little at a time and beat constantly. Scrape the sides of the bowl as needed. If frosting seems a little dry, add the remaining coke and beat well.

I love your descriptions of all your desserts! I am in awe of your creativity. After reading about the scrumptious cakes, cookies, and pies, I feel like I've actually tasted them. This is good, since it saves me a lot of calories! Keep 'em coming!
